Use this forum to post your response as well as anything else that seems relevant to you. The usual rules apply: use courteous language, especially when referring to the opinions or posts of other members of the class, and document your sources. I will read all entries and comment on them when this seems necessary or useful. The first three responses need to be posted by 10/26; the other three by the end of the class. They should be approximately 600-800 words long; if you have something significant to say in 500 words, fine.

By the way, this wonderful carte-de-visite photograph of Darwin, by Herbert Rose Barraud, is probably one of the last taken before he died. I discovered it in a catalog in Italy, and the Lilly was kind enough to purchase it. It was part of my Darwin exhibit at the Lilly last year.
